Financial and Estate Planning: GHB Takes the Time to Help a Distraught Widow With a Financial and Estate Plan for Her Future

One of Celia Johnson's clients lost her husband after a tragic, short-term illness. The devastated, 53 year old wife had no idea how to proceed with her finances now that she was a widow. The couple had saved over their lifetime and planned to enjoy their retirement years by operating a bed and breakfast inn; but the husband had taken care of their financial affairs and made all the investment and tax decisions. Celia, tax partner in the Frisco office, spent numerous hours at the widow's home, going through the filing cabinets and explaining the various documents to the distraught woman. Celia introduced the widow to an investment advisor and an estate attorney. Together, they formulated a plan for her financial future. Celia provided annual tax planning advice and assisted with the accounting for the bed and breakfast venture. Over the years, Celia has taught the widow to better understand and feel more secure about her personal tax and financial matters.
