What 4 Questions Should You Be Asking Us
When Considering Our Firm?

  1. Are you familiar with my industry?
  2. Do you have experience with business problems similar to mine?
  3. Will you act as if my business is your business; and address my needs promptly and thoroughly, just as if I was a close family member?
  4. Have you handled a similar matter to mine?

All large public accounting firms, whether local, regional or national, offer a full range of tax compliance and consulting, audit, finance-related and technology services. All will tell you they have competent professionals and are committed to superior, personalized service.

So what makes Gordon, Hughes & Banks unique?

In one phrase: Our level of professionalism and integrity; our environment of continuity and consistency; our six offices (with more planned) which gives us a broad footprint in Colorado, but within a 'one-firm' concept; and our BDO Seidman Alliance with the seventh largest national and international public accounting firm.

At GHB you receive the best of both worlds. As a larger, local firm with a 'non big firm' style, and with office locations across Colorado, we have the flexibility to build long-term relationships with our clients; while the added global resources available to us through our BDO Seidman Alliance, allows us to provide the additional services growing businesses might need. That's what we mean by 'one-firm' concept.

In a profession that has become a "revolving door" for CPAs, and with current industry uncertainties fueled by firm mergers, dissolutions, and corporate financial irregularities, Gordon, Hughes & Banks stands out.

As one of the largest and oldest local firms in Colorado, our roots go back to 1969 in Breckenridge, Colorado, when Rex Hughes joined his long-time friend, Lowell Gordon, in a small, four-person public accounting firm. In fact, the story begins even earlier: in the second grade in Kansas, when Rex and Lowell met as second graders and began a friendship that continues to this day. Their social security numbers are just one digit apart, and they office next to each other to this day.

Over the years, the original firm successfully weathered its challenges and growing pains. Penny Banks joined the firm in 1976 and became a partner ten years later. Offices were opened in Grand Junction, Frisco, Lakewood and Denver Tech Center. Boulder and Greenwood Village were more recent additions. In August of 2003, the Denver Tech Center and Greenwood Village offices consolidated into one location in the Denver Technological Center. A satellite office in the Vail Valley opened in January 2004. In November 2005 the Lakewood and Downtown Denver offices amalgamated and moved into a new 20,000 square foot facility in Golden. Today, GHB has fourteen partners and more than 84 professionals to service your business needs. We provide tax planning and compliance, audit, SEC registration and reporting, business valuations, accounting services, and finance-related information technology consulting. Our clients range from individuals and privately held corporations, to public companies, government and nonprofit entities.

The fact that ten years is the average length of service among the management group, is testament to an environment of continuity and consistency fostered by the original partners. Their vision, integrity and commitment to professional excellence helped establish Gordon, Hughes & Banks as a firm dedicated to superior client service that goes beyond the traditional tax return and audit. At GHB you also get a seasoned business perspective from experienced professionals. Our clients know this about us: Client turnover rate is less than 5%—below industry averages.

The Denver Business Journal agrees: GHB was voted "The #1 Best Place to Work" for medium companies in their Best Place to Work 2005 survey.
