![]() In the BeginningThe story of this 38 year-old firm really begins way back in Kansas, when two second graders, Rex Hughes and Lowell Gordon, meet and begin a friendship that continues through highschool, college and beyond. The friendship eventually leads Rex to join Lowell in Breckenridge, Colorado, where they become partners in a small, four-employee public accounting firm. Penny Banks joins Lowell and Rex in Breckenridge in 1976 as their secretary/receptionist, but soon transitions into bookkeeping and tax preparation. Lowell opens an office in Grand Junction. Penny earns her CPA license in 1980 and returns to the Breckenridge office. The firm moves to Frisco to better serve the needs of Summit County, Penny becomes partner in 1986 and takes over the Frisco office. Rex opens an office in Lakewood, and locations in the Denver Tech Center, Boulder and Greenwood Village follow. In August of 2003 the Greenwood Village and Denver Tech Center offices consolidate into a new location in Greenwood Village. In January 2004, a satellite office opens in the Vail Valley. Today, more than 85 professionals and fourteen administrative staff serve the needs of Colorado and multi-state clients in six offices across the Front Range, with further plans for expansion. In November 2005, the Lakewood and Downtown Denver offices amalgamated and moved to a new 20,000 square foot facility in Golden. In addition to providing a full range of services, this facility now houses GHB's internal computer system, training center, administrative, IT and marketing departments. Because of its central location to all offices across Colorado, the Golden facility serves as the center of GHB's geographical footprint. Dedicated to helping you chart a career individually tailored to your professional goals and personal life style. When the average length of service among the management group is ten years, you know that GHB is no "revolving door" firm. We work with our staff and professionals to create opportunities that foster career goals tailored to each individual's life style choices. It all stems from the partners' philosophy of successfully prioritizing work/life issues, emphasizing family and leisure time, and encouraging flexibility in working styles. We are serious about flextime, working from home, and reduced hours during 'non-busy' season. We value the fact that our organization is made up of people with different strengths and different needs. We recognize that a well-rounded life other than a career makes for a more dedicated professional. It's your life, your career
It's all about teamworkOur firm is made up of people with different strengths and varying levels of experience. Hard work counts, and so does each individual's contribution. Our people enhance the firm in many ways—such as delivering outstanding service, collaborating on challenging projects and engagements, supporting each other on tight deadlines, mentoring and training the next generation, developing specialized knowledge and teaching colleagues, helping to attract new clients and being informed ambassadors for the firm, and assisting the internal administration. We expect willingness to devote extra effort and work inconvenient hours when the job demands it. Embracing the highest ideals of client serviceTechnical proficiency and professional competence are a given at GHB. But in the end, it's prompt and responsive client service that makes all the difference. GHB takes client service and attentiveness to a higher elevation. It's more than about competency and diligence. It's about going beyond the basic audit and tax functions to partner our clients as they move through their business lifecycles. It's about putting ourselves in their business shoes. We know as much about our clients—their families and their problems—as we do about their taxes and audits. Our clients expect nothing less from us. It's what makes us unique. But let our clients and our people persuade you.
